Solar System Posters

We will be studying planet order from the sun during the first lesson of our unit. After an introduction to the planets' positions, students will create a solar system with just construction paper, glue sticks, and glitter glue. Creating these posters will enable students to demonstrate their mastery of GSE S4E2.d.

Georgia Performance Standard: S4E2. Students will model the position and motion of the earth in the solar system and will explain the role of relative position and motion in determining sequence of the phases of the moon. d. Demonstrate the relative size and order from the sun of the planets in the solar system.

NASA Star Finders

During the course of our unit, students will be learning about the constellations and their positions. This activity from NASA will help students recognize and identify constellations in the night sky. These star finders can be customized for each month of the year, so students can track the constellations and their positions all year long. Students will use these foldables and their science journal to chart one constellation for a week. This activity satisfies GSE S4E1.

Georgia Performance Standard: S4E1. Students will compare and contrast the physical attributes of stars, star patterns, and planets. a. Recognize the physical attributes of stars in the night sky such as number, size, color and patterns.
