In the second lesson for our unit, students will be reading The Story of Ursa Major and Ursa Minor as part of our constellation study. They will also read the Iroquois legend, "The Hunting of the Great Bear." Students will compare and contrast these two myths about Ursa Major and synthesize the information to create and write their own myths about a constellation of their choice. This activity satisfies GSE ELACC4RI9, ELACC4RL9, ELACC4W4, and SE41.a.

During the course of our space unit students will read Magic Tree House: Space to enhance their understanding of astronomy, heliocentric theory, the solar system, and the history of space travel. As students read the book, they will take notes with the following activity packet. Magic Tree House: Space Research Packet (Teachers Pay Teachers). This activity satisfies GSE ELACC4R11 and ELACC4R13.
