Hello and Welcome,
My name is Rachel Hayden and I am an educator in the Savannah area. I am currently a earning my M.A.T. in Early Childhood Education at Armstrong State University and working as a Pre-K Paraprofessional in the SCCPSS. Once I complete my Master's this Spring, I hope to teach 2-4th grade here in Savannah. It is my belief that every child is entitled to a challenging and exemplary education. I have been teaching for a little over two years as a substitute teacher and now as a para. During this time, I have seen amazing poverty and the effects it has on students. It is my mission to help students overcome their struggles so they get a quality education; I will do whatever it takes to accomplish this ongoing fight against poverty, hunger, developmental issues, and even abuse and neglect. Though passion is a word many people throw around, it is really the only one that describes my attitude toward teaching. I genuinely love going to work every single day. It is such a blessing to be able to do what I love and I am so thankful for my wonderful family who continually offer their support and encouragement. I know I want to be a teacher for the rest of my life. Even when I have a difficult teaching day, I can't wait to go back the next day. Teaching really requires commitment, patience, dedication, encouragement, knowledge and most of all, belief in your students. I am attending Armstrong to prepare for the challenges and rewards of teaching elementary school and, thanks to my wonderful professors and fellow students, I know that I am in exactly the right place.
Outside of the classroom I have a variety of interests including athletics, crafting, reading, and cooking. I love running and swimming and I do one or the other almost daily. In 2013 another teacher introduced me to Girls on the Run, a wonderful non-profit that teaches girls about running, positive thinking, goal setting and achievement. Since then, I have coached three seasons of GOTR with the Northeast Florida and Coastal Georgia chapters. I also run the Gate River Run in Jacksonville each year (9.3 miles), except for this past year because my husband and I are expecting our first child, a little boy, this October. I am thrilled to become a mom, and I am looking forward to the impact it will have on my teaching. In my spare time I love to travel, read, cook, and interact with my family and friends. That's me!
